शेतातून सुरू झालेली गोष्ट
It began at a village counter
In 2001 my grandfather kept a small pharmacy on the Soegaon road. The people who walked in were farmers, mason workers, bullock-cart drivers, women carrying water two kilometres a day. They did not come with reports. They came with a knee that would not bend and a back that had stopped forgiving them.
What helped them most was Narayan Tel, the oil our texts describe for joints and nerves. But an oil bottle spills in a shirt pocket. So he cooked it thicker, into a malam that could be carried to the field and rubbed in under a tree at noon.
Twenty-five years on, the pack looks almost the same. We have not made it cheaper by making it weaker.
“औषध बदललं नाही, कारण दुखणं बदललं नाही.”
The medicine has not changed, because the pain has not changed.
